In one of our previous Interview with Goodview, our interviewee Forrest Weng mentioned about SoLoMo which I found quite intriguing. Especially because I wasn’t really familiar with this terminology. SoLoMo stands for Social Location Mobile and it is an intersection of social media, local merchants using location-aware technology for advertising and mobile device usage. SoLoMo is a new trend that is becoming more popular amongst retailers, marketers and consumers because almost everyone now has a smart device and more people are becoming more familiar with social media technologies like twitter, facebook and foursquare.
How can SoLoMo be used with digital signage or vice versa?
Image your at a your walking past your favourite store and a large screen at the front window has a sale message to get you to like their sale and you’ll get a free gift. So on your mobile phone you like their sale posted on facebook and you enable geolocation. Then you walk into the store and because their digital signage system has detected that you liked their sale and worked out that you’re currently in the store via the geolocation co-ordinates, it then send you a voucher code via facebook.
As you can see, the possibilities are endless and it all depends how you can integrate SoLoMo with digital signage. There are probably many more live examples and scenarios and if anyone has actually come across any then please let me know.
