You thought you’d never see the Blue Screen of Death again? Sorry you were wrong. We had to show this because it seems like it’s still a regular occurrence.
FAIL FEATURES
Windows (yes it only happens with Windows) Blue Screen of Death – Not the prettiest blue screen
The system didn’t automatically restart so it’s stuck at this screen. It will remain like this until someone reboots the unit
Text at the top (or left hand side of the screen) is cut off so it seems like either the resolution of the screen is incorrect or the front of the stand covers some of the top of the screen. This would mean some of the content will be cut off.
SUGGESTIONS/RECOMMENDATIONS
Sometimes in this situation there’s not much you can do except to power the system down and start it up again.
There are now technologies that allow you to remotely power off a device via the network. This requires using technologies such as Intel’s vPro or using an out of band device.
There are tools that will allow you to analyse the crash dump and determine what could have caused the problem. If you are interested on how to analyise the crash dump then have a read of this Microsoft Page: How to read the small memory dump file that is created by Windows if a crash occurs
Check to make sure Automatically Restart after System failure is selected in the Windows Advanced Startup and Recovery. Click on Start, Right click Computer and then click properties
Select Advanced System Settings
Click on the Advanced Tab and click settings in Startup and recovery
Make sure Automatically restart is selected in System failure
We have also noticed that even with this option “sometimes” the unit will still hang there because of a corruption with the memory or hard disk drive. So the best thing to do is to disable writing an event to the system log and writing the debugging information. So this should be the final configuration.
For the issue with the top of the screen cutting off, its possible it’s a setting with the screen (aspect ratio, zooming). It can probably be easily fixed within Windows by adjusting the screen resolution so that it matches the native resolution of the screen. Some of the graphics drivers allows scaling both Horizontally or Vertically. Here’s an example:
